Park & Playground Maintenance


The Parks and Open Space Division maintains a sound management strategy to prevent degradation of facilities and ensure that quality services extend to the community, while simultaneously preserving the parks' natural, cultural and recreation resources. We address a broad range of issues including the balance of active / passive and personal / organized recreation needs while undertaking open space preservation, general environmental management and policy, long term planning, design development and restoration projects town-wide.


Park Maintenance

The Parks and Open Space Division is responsible for maintaining over 100 properties, including athletic fields, basketball courts, cemeteries, nature sanctuaries, outdoor ice skating rink, parks and playgrounds, public building grounds, public parking area grounds, school grounds, tennis courts and traffic islands.

Playground Safety

The Parks and Open Space Division is responsible for ensuring safe conditions in playgrounds. Staff is trained in current playground safety standards, and all playgrounds routinely undergo playground safety inspections. New play equipment is carefully selected and meets current federal safety standards.
