Select Board Votes to Place Two Questions on Ballot

UPDATE (as of 9:00am on 3/15/18): 

At their meeting on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, the Select Board voted to place two Questions on the May 8, 2018 Annual Town Election ballot seeking an override of the Proposition 2½ tax levy limit. The first question seeks to permanently increase the Town’s tax levy limit by $6,575,425 in order to fund the costs the cost of expenditures in the Brookline Public Schools ($5,873,642) and in municipal departments ($701,783). The second question seeks a temporary tax levy increase to fund a portion of the costs necessary to replace/expand the High School. The questions are as follows;

Shall the Town of Brookline be allowed to assess an additional $6,575,425 in real estate and personal property taxes for the purpose of funding the cost of expenditures in the Brookline Public Schools ($5,873,642) and in municipal departments ($701,783) for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018?

Shall the Town of Brookline be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half, so-called, the amounts required to pay for the bonds issued in order to renovate and expand Brookline High School, including the acquisition and reconstruction of the property located at 111 Cypress Street and renovations or repairs to Brookline High School, the Evelyn Kirrane Aquatic Center, the Unified Arts Building, the 66 Tappan Street Gym, and Cypress Field?

UPDATE (as of 3/14/18): Due to the March 12-13, 2018 snow/weather conditions, the Select Board Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 13, 2018 was rescheduled to Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Below is the information for that meeting:

Select Board Chair Neil Wishinsky developed a 3-Year Override Funding Plan which was discussed by the Select Board at their meeting on March 6th.  This included a summary of the plan and a detailed listing of accounts/items to be funded, broken down by year and source of funding.  

The Board's vote is scheduled to occur during their meeting on March 13.
