Parks, open space and recreation facilities form an essential component of Brookline's character and have a long and established history in the town. Brookline's parks contribute significantly to the character of the community, complement the dense development patterns, and strengthen neighborhoods. Existing parks and conservation lands provide numerous advantages to the community, including environmental protection, passive and active recreation, historic preservation, social benefits, and enhanced aesthetic character.
The Parks and Open Space Division maintains a sound management strategy to prevent degradation of facilities and ensure that quality services extend to the community, while simultaneously preserving the parks' natural, cultural and recreation resources. We address a broad range of issues including the balance of active/passive and personal/organized recreation needs while undertaking open space preservation, general environmental management and policy, long term planning, design development and restoration projects Townwide.
