Mission

The Brookline Transportation Board was formed in 1974 by an act of the State Legislature to administer all matters relating to parking and transportation in the Town. The Board of Selectmen previously held these duties. The six members of the Transportation Board must be Brookline residents and are appointed by the Board of Selectmen to staggered three-year terms. Any action taken by the Transportation Board may be appealed to the Board of Selectmen within 21 days.

The Transportation Board has authority over the Traffic Rules and Regulations, including such issues as handicapped parking, one-way streets, truck exclusions, parking meters, permit parking, turn restrictions, bus stops, stop and yield signs, traffic calming projects, taxi service, tow zones and general parking prohibitions. In addition to these duties, the Transportation Board takes a proactive role in addressing transportation problems that affect both neighborhoods and the Town as a whole, while also recommending necessary capital projects. The Transportation Board establishes subcommittees from time to time.

The Transportation Board meets regularly to discuss and act upon transportation issues brought before it by the DPW Transportation Division staff. The date, time, place and agenda items for all Transportation Board meetings are posted in advance on the DPW and town calendars. All Transportation Board meetings are open to the public.
