2014 Override Study Committee
At their meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, the Board of Selectmen voted to place two Questions on the May 5, 2015 Annual Town Election ballot seeking an override of the Proposition 2½ tax levy limit. The first question seeks to permanently increase the Town’s tax levy limit by $7,665,000 in order to fund the costs associated with increasing school enrollment (should the ballot measure fail, the municipal budget will be reduced by $682,000.) The second question seeks a temporary tax levy increase to fund a portion of the costs necessary to replace/expand the Devotion School. The questions are as follows;
Shall the Town of Brookline be allowed to assess an additional $7,665,000 in real estate and personal property taxes for the purposes of funding the costs of additional enrollment in the Brookline Public Schools ($6,983,000) and funding the costs of expenditures in municipal departments ($682,000) for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015?
Shall the Town of Brookline be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half, so called, the amounts required to pay for the bond issued in order to replace and expand the Edward Devotion School?
