Water & Sewer Replacement Guidelines

Introduction

The replacement of water service pipes is the responsibility of the property owner and shall be done under the direction of the Water & Sewer Division. The owner is responsible from the curbstop in the sidewalk to the building, with the exception of private ways which the owner will be responsible to replace from the main to the property.  All changes in pipe size are the responsibility of the owner. The owner will be required to obtain the services of a bonded contractor with the Town of Brookline to excavate backfill and restore the pipe trench from either the curbstop in the sidewalk or the main in the street to the building foundation. The Water & Sewer Division will install the new service pipe. The owner must arrange for a licensed plumber to connect the new pipe to the existing plumbing within the building.

The Town of Brookline DOES NOT RECOMMEND particular contractors or plumbers but offers the following as having the required bonds and the necessary experience to perform the work.
