About Commercial Permits
Employees who work in a commercial district are strongly encouraged to walk, bicycle car pool, or take public transit to their workplaces so that as many parking spaces as possible are left available for customers. To assist businesses located in the commercial areas, however, a limited number of employee parking permits are available for purchase. Here’s how they work:
Commercial On-street Permits
Qualified businesses located in a commercial district are eligible to receive an employee parking permit that allows parking on a designated residential side street within a 1/4 mile of the commercial district. Holders of these permits are guaranteed a parking space on the street.
The terms of this permit are as follows:
- Cost - $600 per fiscal year, pro-rated by quarter
- Hours - 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Vehicles are exempt from time-based restrictions such as "No Parking 8 - 10 a.m."
- Limits - No limit on number of permits each business can have
- Renewal - Annual renewal by July 1, expiring June 30
Because these commercial parking permits are hang tags they can be shared among employees. For more information contact 617-730-2177 or download the application.
*Please note that the Brookline Village, Coolidge Corner, JFK Crossing, and St. Mary’s Commercial Districts are full and have a waiting list. To be placed on the waiting list call 617-730-2177.
Coolidge Corner – Centre Street West Parking Lot (56 spaces)
Qualified businesses located in the Coolidge Corner commercial district are eligible to receive an employee parking permit that allows parking in the unmetered Centre Street West parking lot. Holders of these permits are guaranteed a parking space in this lot.
The terms of this permit are as follows:
- Cost - $100 / month + one time $25 annual administrative fee
- Hours - 9 a.m - 8 p.m., Monday - Saturday
- Lot not available on Thursdays when Farmer’s Market is in session
- Limits - 2 permits per business
- Renewal - Does not require annual renewal. Continuously billed on a quarterly basis in January, April, July, and October
Because these permits are hang tags they can be shared among multiple employees. Contact 617-730-2177 for more information.
