Larz Anderson Roadway Improvements
Construction Updates
September 11, 2023
Work is well underway at Larz Anderson Park. The contractor is currently working on the installation of drainage structures and pipes along the park road. After that work is complete, they will move on to full-depth excavation, grading, and paving. This work is currently planned for late September into October and will require a two-week complete shutdown of the roadway through the park.
At this time park access is being maintained by Newton St. or Avon St. entrances. Alternative access by Goddard Ave. entrance.
Visitors should expect work Monday- Friday and be prepared for detours or partial closures of park road. When the road is closed the below detour map will be implemented.

Work has started at the park with the erosion control and tree protection installed. The contractor also completed all the saw cutting for the drainage work. There will be no construction activity next week and then the following week the contractor will be back on site to start the drainage improvements along the roadway. That work will be followed by the removal and reclaiming of the roadway to prepare it for paving.

The construction will soon commence on the roadway replacement at Larz Anderson Park. The project scope consists of the following:
- Removal and disposal of the existing bituminous asphalt roadway surfacing;
- Improvements to the drainage;
- Installation of new bituminous asphalt roadway surfacing;
While we are excited to start this renovation in earnest, we realize that a major construction effort, such as this, is disruptive in many ways. As always, we will try our best to minimize negative impacts during construction and be responsive to unforeseen conditions as needed.
The contractor, Mass Pavement Reclamation, will mobilize in early July. The park and roadway will remain open during most of the construction except for a two-week period where the roadway will be completely shut down. This two-week period is tentatively planned for August 22nd – till September 11th; however, that is subject to change based on material availability. Please visit this site to stay up to date with the project schedule.
Again, we appreciate the disruption any construction project entails, and thank you for your patience and cooperation. We look forward to seeing the new roadways surface open and available for your use.
