- National Grid Washington Street Gas Main Upgrade
In preparation of the Washington Street Complete Street reconstruction project anticipated to begin in 2027 National Grid is replacing old gas pipes and some service lines with strong durable plastic and/or coated steel piping on Washington Street. The new pipe is much less likely to have leaks and release methane gas. National Grid will dig trenches, primarily in road surfaces, and lay new pipes block by block.
During the work there will be short-term detours. Police will direct traffic and will always provide through access. Safety of the public and the construction crew is our first priority. Please use caution in the construction zone. At the end of the day the road will be patched or plated to make them passable.
Please go to the Washington Street Complete Street Project Page to find more information about the redesigning of Washington Street, latest project development's, and opportunities to participate.
For the week of November 6 2023 National Grid will be working on Washington Street from Gardner Road to Fairbanks Road and Cypress St to Greenough St.
