Mission

The Housing Advisory Board (HAB) promotes the preservation and creation of housing, which is affordable to low, moderate, and upper-moderate income households. With this goal, it studies and provides guidance to town staff and boards regarding Brookline's housing needs, policies, programs, and zoning tools.

More specifically, the HAB:

  • Makes recommendations to the Planning Board and Board of Appeals on zoning issues including affordable housing, most notably the application of the Affordable Housing Requirements of the Zoning By-law to specific projects
  • Makes recommendations to the Select Board regarding the distribution housing-related funding, including Brookline Housing Trust and federal Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) monies
  • Participates in town-wide planning efforts such as the comprehensive plan, as well as site-specific planning
