Update on 9th School - Upcoming Public Hearing, MSBA vote, and Article 97 Update

Please keep reading for two recent updates on the process to identify a site for a new elementary school in Brookline.

Announcement -- Park & Recreation Commission Public Hearing on March 15th to Focus on South Brookline Sites under Consideration for 9th Elementary School 

The Park & Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing on March 15th at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall on sites being considered for the 9th elementary school. The agenda includes discussion of public school needs, park and recreation needs, and sites in South Brookline that are under consideration including the Baldwin School, Baker School and the Putterham Meadows Golf Course. The Park and Recreation meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. and the Public Hearing portion of the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. 

March 8th Update

 
During the past two weeks at separate meetings, the School Committee, the Board of Selectmen, and the Advisory Committee all voted to proceed with the process for the 9th Elementary School and Brookline High School renovation and expansion without submitting a Statement of Interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority to allow for more flexibility in the design processes and the timelines for the projects. 

Town Counsel has provided a second memo and and additional documentation relative to Article 97 for sites being considered for the 9th elementary school including Putterham Meadows Golf Course. The January 21 memo regarding regarding Article 97 considerations in the document linked here.
