Green Line D Branch Track and Signal Replacements project

Dear Residents, Business Owners, and Riders:

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is pleased to announce the Green Line D Track and Signal Replacement Project. The project will replace 25,000 feet of track and 6.5 miles of signal infrastructure on the Green Line D branch. Work on this project will begin soon, and we hope you can join us for the first public meetings on August 29 in Brookline and September 6 in Newton (see details below).

This project is an MBTA initiative to bring the Green Line track and signal systems into a state of good repair. New tracks and a modernized signal system will help improve the reliability of Green Line operations and result in fewer delays and failures between Beaconsfield and Riverside stations. Construction is scheduled to begin in October and continue through December 2020.

This project will impact both Green Line D Branch riders and abutters who live near the Green Line tracks and stations. The MBTA has engaged Barletta-Fischbach, a contractor who will work overnight hours to reduce service impacts to Green Line riders. A noise hotline will soon be available for abutters. From October through December 2018 (and again in 2019 and 2020), bus shuttles will replace Green Line D branch service between Brookline Hills and Riverside on Sundays through Thursdays, starting at 9 PM. Weeknight bus shuttles will also be needed from April - December 2019 and April - December 2020. Additionally, over 15 weekends in 2019 and 2020, bus shuttles will replace Green Line service on portions of the D branch all day Saturday and Sunday.

The MBTA invites you to attend two public meetings on this project:

Wednesday, August 29, at 6:00 PM
Brookline Town Hall, 6th Floor
Selectboard’s Meeting Room
333 Washington St, Brookline, MA

Thursday, September 6, at 6:00 PM
Newton Free Library
Druker Auditorium
330 Homer St, Newton, MA

At these meetings, the MBTA and the project team will present an overview of the construction phasing and schedule, discuss the noise impacts and mitigation measures, review the work that will happen at each station, and answer questions. View a meeting flyer for more information.

The MBTA will notify abutters of the work in advance of the contractor reaching each construction area. To avoid missing notices or information on the project, please see the information below on signing up for email updates.
