A recently completed study by a team of graduate students in Land Use Planning from MIT’s Department of Urban Studies has revived conversation and sparked new interest in planning for the future of Route 9 East. The visioning study yielded a number of recommendations, including the identification of three “catalyst sites” as having potential for redevelopment. In light of the student and staff recommendations, feedback from the community as well as a new redevelopment proposal for 25 Washington Street, the Board of Selectmen have established a zoning overlay study committee to further review and analyze the redevelopment potential of the Industrial zone, including the proposal for 25 Washington Street. The first meeting of the River Road Study Committee is on Wednesday, February 3 at 7:00 pm in the Denny Room of the Public Health Building. 11 Pierce Street, Brookline, MA.
