[ARCHIVED] Lost Pond: Trail Maintenance - Saturday, June 13th

Located in the extreme northwest corner of Brookline, the Lost Pond Sanctuary is a 30-acrea parcel of natural, undeveloped forest and wetland. With Newton’s Kennard Park and the state of Massachusetts’ Conservation Area, this sprawling forested area contains bogs, marshes, streams, ponds, and over one hundred acres of natural woodland nestled only 8 miles from the center of Boston.

The Sanctuary has a 1-mile walking trail offering a glimpse of several different kinds of New England ecosystems, and a serene natural retreat from city life. The natural landscape and varied ecology provides countless opportunities for outdoor recreation and environmental education.

Through this volunteer project, you will work hand-in-hand with the park rangers to help preserve and protect this fantastic resource for you and others to appreciate and enjoy. We need volunteers like you to come lend a hand and a few hours to one of Brookline’s nature sanctuaries to prevent the spread of invasive species, clear the trails and help prepare the area for a summer of exploration and peaceful reflection and recreation in a natural environment.

The project will consist of pulling/cutting invasive plants, and light trail maintenance and debris removal. This is an OPEN PROJECT, meaning any and all are welcome, whether it’s you alone, your close family and friends, or a small, mixed group looking to get your hands dirty and give back to your local community. Stay as long or as briefly as you’d like; every little bit helps!
