"Community Begins Here" - Brookline DPW Engineering & Transportation Division

The Engineering Division is responsible for the creation of contracts and plans as well as the management of its town projects. The division is centered on providing support to the construction and maintenance divisions of the Department of Public Works. In general, the Engineering Division's personnel routinely complete the following:

• Preparation of plans and specification
• Compilation of estimates and bidding documents to create contracts• Maintaining detailed utility data
• Management of construction projects involving open space and the town's public infrastructure• Performing surveys and analyzing data
• Providing town plans including land, water, drain, sewer, parks, and streets to the public

The Transportation Division works with the Transportation Board to develop and implement all transportation policies, plans and regulations in the town. The Transportation staff provides technical support and administrative services in the following areas:

• Administrating residential, guest overnight and commercial area employee parking programs
• Conducting small-scale traffic and parking studies• Developing commercial area parking policies and plans
• Developing intersection and traffic signal improvement projects• Developing neighborhood safety improvement policies and plans
• Licensing and overseeing taxi cab, valet, and livery industries• Reviewing parking controls and regulations
• Reviewing transportation access and construction management plans for new developments• Overseeing use and placement of traffic control devices
