Warm, humid summer days bring an increase in reports of bats entering homes in Brookline. Brookline Health Department officials received 46 bat reports last August and reports of bats entering the homes of Brookline residents have already started coming in this past week.
Some of the bats were not captured or captured inappropriately resulting in unsatisfactory results; the individuals in these cases were advised to get a series of rabies vaccine as a precaution.
The Brookline Health Department is issuing a Rabies Advisory to stress the importance of capturing and testing any bat found inside a home or other building that has exposed a human or pet.
