The MBTA is hosting two public meetings regarding the upcoming Green Line D Track & Signal Replacement Project beginning this fall. The meeting dates/locations are as follows:
Wednesday, August 29th at 6:00pm
Location: Select Board Hearing Room, 6th Floor, Brookline Town Hall, 333 Washington Street
Thursday, September 6th at 6:00pm
Location: Newton Free Library, Druker Auditorium, 330 Homer Street, Newton

Starting in mid-September, the MBTA will begin construction on a project to replace signals and sections of track along the Green Line D Branch from Riverside to Beaconsfield stations. Learn more about this project and how to sign up for email updates.
About the Project
Timeline: 2018-2020Status: ConstructionThis project is part of the MBTA initiative to bring the Green Line track and signal systems into a state of good repair.
Goals
- Replace approximately 6.5 miles of signal infrastructure
- Replace 25,000 feet of track
- Replace special trackwork between Beaconsfield and Riverside stations
Project Features
- Signal equipment will be centralized at stations
- Modern electronics will replace antiquated, obsolete signal equipment
- Continuous welded rail will replace jointed rail
Benefits
- Modern signal system will be less likely to fail, resulting in fewer delays
- Reduction in signal failures and response times
- Fewer signal delays will increase reliability of Green Line operations
- Maintenance of Way will be able to remove speed restrictions on the D branch

Late Evening Bus Shuttles (Sunday – Thursday)
During select months, bus shuttles will replace train service on any of the following portions of the D branch, Sunday – Thursday, starting at 9 PM:
- Brookline Hills to Newton Highlands
- Reservoir to Newton Highlands
- Newton Highlands to Riverside
Year 2018 - Affected Months are September - December
Year 2019 - Affected Months are April - December
Year 2020 - Affected Months are April - December
Weekend Bus Shuttles (Saturday and Sunday)
Additionally, over 15 weekends in 2019 and 2020, bus shuttles will replace train service on any of the following portions of the D branch all day Saturday and Sunday:
- Brookline Hills to Newton Highlands
- Reservoir to Newton Highlands
- Newton Highlands to Riverside
- Reservoir to Riverside
