Statement from Bernard Greene, Chair of the Select Board Regarding the National Park Service E-mail

Brookline Town Seal

Click here for a letter from special counsel Luke Legere addressing the substance of the April 15, 2019 e-mail from Megan Lang of the National Park Service that Attorney Goldberg disclosed at the Select Board’s meeting last week. Mr. Goldberg represents an abutter opposed to the Baldwin project. Mr. Legere’s letter about the substance and context of the information in the NPS e-mail speaks for itself, but it does not excuse staff’s failure to circulate the actual April 15 e-mail message to the Select Board, School Committee, Town Administrator, Baldwin Building Committee or others. Clearly, an email about a topic that, at the time, was the subject of an upcoming debt exclusion vote, has been the focus of lengthy public debate, and is the subject of litigation should have been shared so that we could make our own judgment about its import.

We understand that Town Counsel regrets that the e-mail was not forwarded. The Board takes this matter seriously and will address it appropriately, with reasonable communication to the public following our review of this matter.
