Free Compost Starter Kit for New Black Earth Residential Subscribers
Did you know that approximately 30% of Massachusetts' waste stream is made up of material that could be composted? When food waste is sent to landfills, it doesn't properly decompose and emits methane, a greenhouse gas more than 25x more potent than carbon dioxide. Composting speeds up the natural process of decomposition and creates a final product that adds nutrients, moisture, and carbon to soil!
The Town of Brookline is partnering with Black Earth Compost to encourage residents to subscribe to curbside organics at a fixed price set by our agreement. For a limited time, the Town of Brookline's DPW is offering FREE compost starter kits (a value of up to $38) to all new Black Earth Compost residential subscribers! Compost starter kits include a Black Earth Compost curbside bin (subscribers may select between a 4-gallon apartment bin or 13-gallon bin) and compostable bin liner bags. Black Earth Compost offers a weekly pickup subscription option ($59.99/6 months or $2.31/week) or an every other week pickup subscription option ($44.99/6 months or $1.73/week). To date, over 1,800 Brookline households have subscribed to Black Earth Compost, and that number is rapidly growing Once 3,000 Brookline households are subscribed to Black Earth, the price will lower even further to $49.99/6 months for a weekly pickup.
