To avoid falls, walk like a penguin!

Take short steps

Walk with your arms at your side – not in your pockets

Concentrate on maintaining balance

Prepare your home:

 Have your heating system checked
Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working
Have plenty of blankets
Have a working flashlight and extra batteries
Keep an emergency supply of canned/non-perishable foods
Stock up on your medications
Pre-arrange to have someone check on you

Prepare yourself:

Get your Flu and COVID shot
Avoid Hypothermia and frostbite - keep your heat to 68 degrees +.  When going out, dress in loose layers.  Wear a hat that covers your ears, a scarf, windproof/waterproof coat and good waterproof boots with tractions.  Change into dry clothes as soon as you can
Your pets are important.  Make sure they wear a coat and booties to protect their paws from the salt

Other Tips:

Wear mittens instead of gloves
Eat a well balanced meal and stay hydrated - think hot chocolate to stay warm!
When there is a very cold wind chill, stay home when possible
